The very patient Natalie Downe at Laynrd engaged me on Twitter to ask why I shamed her site. She was kind enough to explain that she intentionally excluded print styles from the home page. She also made an adjustment to remove the social media icons from the printed event pages. You can follow our chat on Twitter (I don't have time to make the whole thing into one page). If only the other 70+ sites featured to this point would be so proactive.

Natalie Downe made a Storify page of our Twitter chat today, which I link here because the address in her comment below isn't automagically turned into a hyperlink.

I created a Storify page of the entire Twitter chat, no tweets excluded. I also left out commentary since I think the conversation is pretty clear.

  1. To follow the conversation on Twitter between Adrian and myself, and for a little extra commentary on the matter, have a look at my Storify: http://storify.com/natbat/discussion-of-print-styles

One point to note is that event pages, schedules and sessions on Lanyrd have had a lot of work put into their print styles and I believe they do print well. There is still room for improvement, as there is with everything.

However I do not consider myself someone who has "forgotten the fundamentals" as the submission in this site suggests. Please see the article I wrote for 24ways on the subject of print design. http://24ways.org/2007/back-to-the-future-of-print and check the print styles on inner pages before you make your own decision of the print styles of Lanyrd.
